Vocational trainee profiles

David Siemoneit from Bremen:
“As a trainee management assistant in wholesale and foreign trade, part of my job is to provide sales advice and support to our customers. Further education and tours of Klöckner’s operations give me the specialist insights I need to do my job. At the vocational college that I attend twice a week, we get a good grounding in business studies and economics. I think wholesale and foreign trade is fascinating and I appreciate being able to work independently. Once I’ve completed my training, Klöckner offers great opportunities for further growth as well as to advance my career at the company.”

  • Vocational college: Berufsschule für den Großhandel, Außenhandel und Verkehr (vocational college for wholesale, foreign trade and transportation)

Joe Heitepriem from Velten (Berlin), Germany:
“My work station is in the production hall directly in front of the CNC lathe. Before getting on with the job, there’s a shift handover and I get instructions and pointers on what needs to be done during the day. The machine is handed over or readjusted and I get down to production. The important thing is to monitor the quality and ensure optimum output. Minor or major faults pop up time and again and I have to correct them alone or with the help of an experienced colleague. At the end of the shift, any notable incidents have to be recorded in the shift book and I write up my personal report in my training notebook.”

Kristina Hammerschmidt from Osnabrück:
“As part of my training, we move from department to department at regular intervals so that we can get a feel for their different activities. That keeps things interesting. At the moment, I’m working in welding wire, where I’m responsible for checking on a daily basis that deliveries have been dispatched on schedule. I also have to prepare the test reports that our customers frequently require from the welding wire department. A lot of customers request supplies under framework agreements, which are captured as single orders in the system and shipped out.”
