Diversity & Equal Opportunity

Diversity & Equal Opportunity

In order to be able to operate successfully and offer secure and interesting jobs over the long term in an increasingly globalized economy, we must understand and implement the term "diversity".

We are represented in around 290 locations in more than 20 countries and have more than 170,000 customers. In order to be able to carry out their wishes successfully and to their satisfaction, our workforce must mirror the diversity of our customer base. Diversity is therefore particularly important to us as an international Group that serves companies of any size and from any industry.

In the countries where we operate, our constant focus must be on offering all employees the best possible opportunities for further development and offering ideal starting opportunities to new employees. This includes strictly following existing legal and country-specific rules and regulations.

Our Company places particular value on training and continuing education. In countries that have adopted a dual training system, we consistently sponsor young women and men. In countries without a dual training system, we use our Company’s own training centers to offer all employees ideal starting opportunities of facing professional challenges.

Even though steel distribution has traditionally been dominated by men, Klöckner & Co is strongly committed to increasing the percentage of women at every organizational level and offering attractive career opportunities to women. We particularly encourage applications from female candidates. In addition, we are considering significantly increase the percentage of women in management positions in the Group from currently 8% to 20% in 2020.

"The remit of our Executive HR & Talent Management Department includes working to increase the percentage of female employees, including at management level. If we succeed in making Klöckner & Co the first company in a male-dominated industry to raise the percentage of women promoted because of their particular talents, such as communication skills and empathy, I believe this will be a clear competitive advantage."

Gisbert Rühl, Chairman of the Management Board of Klöckner & Co SE
